Connect. Grow. Serve.

WHAT WE BELIEVE

The United Methodist Church is a part of the worldwide Christian faith seeking to convince the world of God’s grace found through the sacrifice of Jesus. Our ways of thinking about how we relate to God, are built through the Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments.

Seeking to foster an awakening in the Anglican Church, John Wesley called the Church to a very methodical approach of following Jesus by studying Scripture, worshipping within the gathered community, observing the Sacraments, Scriptural holiness of both heart, and life and serving in ministry to the whole world.

The Articles of Religion  in the United Methodist Book of Discipline define our traditional beliefs more clearly.

HOW DO WE LIVE OUT WHAT WE BELIEVE?

CONNECT

Jesus said, “Yes, I am the vine; you are the branches. Those who remain in me, and I in them, will produce much fruit. For apart from me you can do nothing.” John 15.5

To become a disciple of Jesus we must be connected to God and each other. We connect through Worshipping in the gathered community, the intentional study of His Word personally and in Small Groups, and serving in ministry.

GROW
“But those who obey God’s word truly show how completely they love him. That is how we know we are living in him. Those who say they live in God should live their lives as Jesus did.” 1 John 2:5-6

To become like Jesus requires us to grow, allowing the Holy Spirit to change our heart and mind. We believe that we are called to holiness, that we should strive for it.  This growth happens as we Worship, intentionally study His Word personally and in Small Groups, and serve in ministry.

SERVE
“For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.” Ephesians 2:10

As we grow to be more like Jesus, we can’t help but see the call of being a servant. Serving takes many forms both inside and outside the Church. Using the spiritual gifts given to every believer, we engage in ministry to serve each other and the world.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What will the experience be like?

Worship is giving honor, praise and thanks to God.  At NUMC we worship at 9 AM in our Family Life Center (FLC) and 11 AM in the Sanctuary.

When you arrive at either service there are trained greeters at the doors to help you find your way to the Worship space and Sunday School.

Our children’s ministry area is in the FLC.  We utilize a check-in system to make sure the children are safe. It makes pick-up and drop-off more efficient. The nursery is available for infants to 3 year-olds.  After the music and just before the sermon, children, age 4 thru 5th Grade, can go to the KidsChurch room for worship and learning at their level.  KidsChurch is available during both worship services.

Each service beings promptly at the scheduled time with a Prayer and includes great music, and Biblical preaching by Rev. Mark Addington.

The 9 AM service is Contemporary with music like you hear on a Christian radio station led by a band with guitars, drums, keyboards and vocalists.  People wear anything from shorts and t-shirts, to jeans, and dresses; whatever is comfortable!  There’s coffee available as you enter the building.  Words and Scripture are shown on the 2 big screens at the front of the worship space.  We celebrate Holy Communion on the first Sunday of each month. The service lasts from 45 to 60 minutes.

The 11 AM service is traditional with hymns sung from a hymnal led by our adult choir. We read the traditional creeds or Psalter readings, as well as pray the Lord’s prayer each Sunday.   You will find people wearing anything from shorts to a suit and tie.  Wear whatever is comfortable.  We celebrate Holy Communion on the first Sunday of each month. The service lasts about an hour.

How early should I get there?

Plan on arriving at least 10 minutes before the service starts.

This will give you time to park, check your kids into their classrooms and grab a cup of coffee before the service begins.

What should I wear?

Just wear what is comfortable to you.  At the 9 AM Contemporary service you’ll see people in short and t-shirts, slacks or blue jeans or dresses.  At the 11 AM Traditional service some wear jeans, others are in dresses or coats and ties.  Though we want to always honor God, even with what we wear, we want you here.  So just come.  That’s the important thing. Oh, and don’t forget your smile!

What about my kids?

KidsChurch is designed for children from 4K through fifth grade. Your child will experience age-appropriate teaching, music and fun activities designed to introduce them to a life-changing journey to follow Jesus Christ. It is led by both staff and volunteers who will be there each week to care for and love on your child. By the way, we utilize a check-in system that ensures a safe environment for your children and also allows for efficient drop-off and pick-up for parents.

A nursery is provided for children ages birth through 3 years.
